# How Many Drinks Can a Boba Cart Serve Per Hour?

![A hand holding a clear cup of brown sugar boba milk tea](https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1558122104-355edad709f6?auto=format&fit=crop&w=1600&q=70)

One bobarista can make 60 to 80 drinks an hour, and that single number is what determines whether your event needs one staff member or two.

## Where does that number come from?

Sixty to 80 drinks an hour reflects the actual time it takes to build a boba drink correctly: portion the tea base, add toppings, seal the cup, and hand it off. It's not a theoretical max, it's a sustainable working pace across a full service window, not just a short burst. A vendor quoting a much higher number per person per hour is either describing a best-case burst rate or padding the number to make one staff member sound sufficient for a bigger crowd than it can handle.

## How do I know if I need one bobarista or two?

Do the math against your guest count and your service window, not just your total headcount. If you have 80 guests and a one-hour service window, you're right at the edge of what one bobarista can handle if literally every guest orders in that hour, which rarely happens evenly, but it's close enough that most vendors add a second staff member at that point. The Boba Bar Experience staffs to guest count and service window, planning on 65 drinks an hour per bobarista, and adds a second at $225 when the math calls for it.

## What happens if a cart is understaffed?

A line. And at a [corporate event](/corporate), a slow-moving line isn't just an inconvenience, it's the visible symptom of a vendor being in over their head, in front of your leadership team or your clients if it's a brand activation. Guests give up and walk away, or they stand in line instead of networking, which defeats half the point of catering an event in the first place.

## Does guest arrival pattern matter, not just guest count?

Yes, and it's easy to overlook. An office party where everyone breaks for the same 15-minute window creates a sharper surge than a rolling open house where people trickle through over two hours. If your event has a hard start time and a break-room-style rush, mention that specifically when you're booking, because the average drinks-per-hour math can undersell the peak-minute demand even for a moderate guest count.

## Does the menu affect the pace?

A little. A tighter [menu](/menu) with fewer flavor and topping choices moves faster than a sprawling one, because less time gets spent per order on decision-making and on physically reaching for more ingredient options. If your event has a tight one-hour window and a high guest count, a simpler tier like Double Sip or Triple Sip can help keep the line moving, independent of staffing.

## Ask your vendor this

1. What's your realistic drinks-per-hour rate per staff member, not a best-case number?
2. At what guest count and service window do you automatically add a second bobarista?
3. What's the added cost for a second staff member?
4. Does our event have a concentrated rush (like a break window) that changes the math?
5. Would a simpler menu tier help our line move faster for our guest count?

## The diagnostic tell

Watch for a vendor who quotes a suspiciously high per-person capacity number, something like 150 drinks an hour from a single station, to avoid charging you for a second staff member. That's a corner being cut before your event even starts, and you'll see it in real time as a line that doesn't move.

Bring your real guest count and your actual service window to the conversation, not just a rough estimate, and a vendor who's done this before should be able to tell you within a minute whether you need one bobarista or two.
