# The Best Boba Setup for a Wedding

![A tall clear cup of brown sugar boba milk tea with dark pearls settled at the bottom](https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1558857563-b371033873b8?auto=format&fit=crop&w=1600&q=70)

Most vendors will not tell you what to pick, because naming a favorite narrows the sale. We think that is backwards, so here is our actual answer: the exact package, flavors, toppings, timing and staffing we would choose for a 100 guest wedding, and the reasoning behind each one.

## Which package should you pick for a wedding?

Triple Sip, three flavors. Not Quad.

At a wedding the whole guest list arrives at once, and a fourth option adds decision time to a line that is already surging. Three covers everyone without slowing the pour. This is the rare case where less choice is the better product. Quad Sip earns its keep at grazing events like open houses where guests trickle in, but a reception is a surge, and the package should match it.

## Which three flavors?

Classic Milk Tea or Thai Tea, Mango Green Tea, and Brown Sugar Boba Milk. Each one earns its slot for a different reason.

**Classic Milk Tea or Thai Tea** is the familiar one. Half the guest list has never ordered boba and needs an obvious safe pick that requires no explanation at the front of a moving line.

**Mango Green Tea** is the crowd pleaser. It is lighter than a milk tea and naturally dairy free, so it quietly covers guests who cannot do milk without anyone having to ask for a substitution.

**Brown Sugar Boba Milk** is the smart pick. It is the most photographed boba drink there is, and it is traditionally made without tea, which makes it caffeine free. One flavor slot doing two jobs: the photo moment, and the grandparents and kids who should not have caffeine at nine at night.

For toppings: classic boba, popping boba and rainbow jelly. The rainbow is there for color in photographs, and it works.

## How long should the bar run?

Two hours, at cocktail hour or after dinner. Not stretched across both.

Cooked pearls hold about four hours before they harden. A bar open from cocktail hour through the last dance is serving a worse drink at the end than at the start, and the guests who waited get the worst of it. Pick one window and do it properly. Two hours is included in every booking, and that is the window we would use.

## Do you need one bobarista or two?

The formula says one. At a wedding, we recommend two, and here is the honest math so you can decide for yourself.

Our published rule is that one bobarista covers up to 100 guests across a two hour window, because one person makes about 65 drinks an hour. But that formula assumes guests arrive evenly, and at a wedding they do not. Most of your guest list walks up within about twenty minutes of the ceremony ending, and that is the stretch where the line forms.

The numbers, at 100 guests on Triple Sip over two hours, before tax: one bobarista is $600 in drinks, $125 setup and delivery and $225 in staffing, which is $950, or $9.50 a head. Two bobaristas is $1,175, or $11.75 a head. The $225 difference buys a shorter line during the one twenty minute stretch that matters. Whether that is worth it is your call, and we will run either one happily.

## What else is worth asking for?

Two things almost nobody in Texas offers: a complimentary tasting before you commit to flavors, and color matching the drinks to your wedding palette.

A tasting means you pick flavors you have actually had, built the way you actually want them. Color matching means the drinks photograph like they belong at your reception instead of next to it. This is the lane The Boba Bar Experience works in on [weddings](/weddings): tastings are free for couples with a date in mind, and palette matching is part of the conversation, not an upsell.

## If you take nothing else from this

1. Triple Sip, three flavors. A wedding is a surge, not a graze, and three pours faster than four.
2. Classic Milk Tea or Thai Tea, Mango Green Tea, Brown Sugar Boba Milk. Familiar, dairy free, caffeine free, covered.
3. Classic boba, popping boba, rainbow jelly.
4. Two hours at cocktail hour or after dinner, never both. Pearls hold about four hours.
5. One bobarista is allowed at 100 guests. Two is what we would do, and the difference is $225.
6. Ask for the tasting and the color match. Almost nobody in Texas offers either.

## What to do next

Take this list or argue with it, either works. Send your date and guest count on the [quote form](/book), mention the tasting, and we will bring the drinks so you can judge them yourself before you commit to anything.

## Ready to price your event?

Every rate is published, and the quote form takes about two minutes.
